Promising St Mark’s Basilica Colt Lands Debut Win

A super Saturday for St Mark’s Basilica continued as Pathein (2c St Mark’s Basilica - Excellent View, by Shamardal) struck on debut at Doncaster on Saturday.

Trained by Ed Dunlop, the two-year-old was held up in midfield under Rab Havlin and made good headway with two furlongs left to run in the mile maiden. Pathein led narrowly from a furlong out and ultimately won the battle with Lyneham for victory.

The son of St Mark’s Basilica completed a one-two-three for Coolmore sires with Lyneham (by Wootton Bassett) a close second and Del Maro (by Camelot) back in third.

Pathein’s victory continued a fine run of form for the world champion three-year-old, with Diamond Necklace’s victory in the Listed Ingabelle Stakes at Leopardstown earlier in the day. Aylin also secured Group 2 success in the May Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday.

Pathein was bred by Lady Bamford and Alice Bamford.
