Promising St Mark’s Basilica Filly Captures First Win

Lady Roisia (2f St Mark’s Basilica - Talent, by New Approach) became the latest winner for St Mark’s Basilica when striking at Nottingham on Thursday.

The Ralph Beckett-trained juvenile had finished third in a warm fillies’ novice at Leicester last month and made full use of that experience to win by half-a-length under Hector Crouch.

Crouch said: "It was strong form from Leicester, obviously she was entitled to take a nice step forward. She moved into contention well here today.

“I thought she would go and kick clear but just showed a bit of greenness inside the furlong. She just rolled around a little bit, so she’s value for a little bit more."

Lady Roisia is the 17th individual winner for the in-form St Mark's Basilica, whose first crop of runners also includes Group 2 May Hill Stakes scorer Aylin and Listed Ingabelle Stakes scorer Diamond Necklace.

Both fillies hold entries for the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp on Sunday, while fellow stakes scorer Thesecretadversary is entered for the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster later this month.

Lady Roisia, a daughter of Epsom Oaks heroine Talent, was bred by Ashbrittle Stud and M H Dixon.
