Sober (camelot) Wins The Queen Alexandra Stakes

Son Of Camelot Fuels Cup Dreams With Impressive Ascot Win

Sober (6g Camelot – Burma Sea, by Lope De Vega) drew clear to win the final race of Royal Ascot 2025, the Queen Alexandra Stakes, in impressive fashion for Willie Mullins, OTI Racing and the Why Knot Partnership.

The son of Camelot won two Group 2 contests for Andre Fabre and breeders Wertheimer et Frere before selling to current connections, for whom he made a winning start last month. Sent off a short-priced favourite for Saturday’s stamina test, the bay made headway to take second before two furlongs out and eased into the lead a furlong later. Pushed clear by Ryan Moore, he ran on to lead by five lengths on the line, while Wild Waves, from Crystal Ocean’s first crop finished third.

“Sober has surprised us; he's improved a lot more than I thought he would. “We will aim for the Melbourne Cup - this was stage one. There are a lot of hoops to jump through, but we'll get them done.”

“I'm delighted. We bought him and he's turned out to be a lot better than we thought he would be; he's improved an awful lot,” Mullins later revealed. “We'd like to get him qualified for the Melbourne Cup, that's where we'd probably aim for.”

Terry Henderon of OTI Racing commented: “This is such a thrill. It's the wildest dreams of our partners back in Australia to win these races. It's great to bookend at the greatest meeting in the world.”
