St Mark’s Basilica Colt Brings 750,000gns at Craven Breeze-Up Sale
St Mark’s Basilica provided one of the highlights at a strong opening session of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, where Amo Racing went to 750,000gns for a colt from his first crop.
The Grangeclare-consigned colt came with high expectations, having clocked a smart time at Monday’s breeze, and previously cost 200,000gns as a yearling. Representing the Amo team, agent Alex Elliott revealed that they were keen on the colt from the start.
“He’s a horse we honed in on early,” Elliott explained. “Robson Aguiar rode him in his breeze and he breezed very well. He carried his speed very evenly in his breeze, particularly well for a horse who is going to want seven furlongs, a mile, or maybe a bit further. I do like to see an even breeze, and Robson is a huge fan of the horse.
“The word on St Mark’s Basilica seems to be good, there’s been a few that have breezed well. He was an exceptional racehorse and we paid 600,000gns for a filly in Book 2. She was bought with Al Shaqab and is doing well with Karl Burke.”
It marked a terrific start for Grangeclare in their first year consigning at the breeze-up sales and on Tuesday evening, Joey Logan said: “We’re over the moon. We didn’t expect that, to be honest. He did a really good breeze and we were very happy with him. He vetted very well, he showed very well too.”
