St Mark’s Basilica Colt Impresses With Effortless Debut Win

Rogue Supremacy (2c St Mark’s Basilica – Mighty Spirit, by Acclamation) shaped like a smart prospect on Monday when justifying strong market support on debut at Weatherby.

Bought from Tally-Ho Stud for £160,000 at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale, the David O’Meara-trained colt was sent off a short-priced favourite for the juvenile maiden over five and a half furlongs. Making all under Danny Tudhope, the bay began to quicken from two furlongs out and had his rivals under pressure a furlong later. Pushed out, he ran on well to score by two and a quarter lengths, while another six-figure purchase claimed second, three and a quarter lengths clear of the third.

“Very straightforward,” the winning rider reported to Racing TV. “Rogue Supremacy jumped well but there was no real pace on early. I would have been happy to get a lead but he ends up in front and we went fairly steady fractions early on and he was in cruise control after that. He's a horse we like a lot at home and it's a good start.”

The first crop son of St Mark’s Basilica is owned by The Rogues Gallery and was bred by Coverdale Stud.
