St Mark’s Basilica Filly Impresses At Ascot

El Vamos (2f St Mark’s Basilica - Cartiem, by Cape Cross) created a big impression on debut at Ascot on Friday when storming home for a clear-cut success.

The George Boughey-trained filly was positioned midfield early on under Billy Loughnane and made smooth progress around the home turn to make up ground on the leaders.

Taking up the lead inside the final furlong, the daughter of St Mark’s Basilica showed a potent turn of foot to win by three-and-three-quarter lengths.

Loughnane said: "She started off with a mile today but I don't think she'll have any problems staying further. I imagine there will be some nice options off the back of this.

"She hit the line well and I imagine she'd be even better if something could have taken me into the race for longer."

El Vamos was bred by Woodnook Farm Pty Ltd.
