Golden Pal 2

$460,000 Filly Leads Way for Golden Pal During Second Week of Keeneland September

A filly purchased by Mike Ryan for $460,000 led the way for Golden Pal during the second week of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale after his Book 1 and 2 offerings were topped by a $600,000 filly.

This Gainesway-offered filly bred by Bonne Chance Farm is a half-sister to the stakes winning Iva and stakes placed Go West out of stakes winner and Grade III-placed Sushi Empire. There was also another stakes update after the catalog was released when the filly’s half-sister saw her juvenile daughter Sassy Fox finish second in the Blue Hen Stakes.

Sassy Fox was the ninth stakes performer for the family with Sushi Empire’s dam a half-sister to Canadian champion Marchfield and stakes winner Congor Bay and a full sister to the stakes placed Westmoreland. That dam was also one of three stakes performers out of multiple Grade III winner Pico Teneriffe.

Wesley Ward teamed up on another Golden Pal offering – one of three he purchased – when he partnered with Arnmore Thoroughbreds for a $450,000 filly.

Offered by Paramount Sales and bred by Barouche Stud, the filly is a half-sister to three winners from three to race out of winning Elusive Quality mare Brusquer. That mare has a big family behind her as a half-sister to Grade I winner and champion sire Tapit. Her half-sisters include the stakes placed dam of stakes winner Noble and a Beauty and the dam of multiple Grade II winner Madefromlucky among others.

Brusquer’s dam Tap Your Heels is one of two stakes winners and four stakes performers out of the stakes winning Ruby Slippers, with the group including champion Rubiano.

Brusquer visited another Coolmore America stallion the year this yearling was born, foaling an Epicenter filly earlier this year.

Golden Pal’s 76 sold at this year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale averaged $139,185 with a gross of $10,578,000, led by yearlings selling for $600,000, $525,000, $500,000, etc.
