Brotha Keny Scores Second Stakes Win in Zia Park Derby

Mo Town’s multiple graded stakes placed Brotha Keny (3g Mo Town x Raramuri Princess, by Northern Afleet) scored his second stakes victory of the year with a win in the Zia Park Derby.

The William Morey trainee shipped in from Kentucky for the 1 1/16-mile race with bettors sending him off as the second choice. The Mo Town son raced in last for much of the race but was less than five lengths off the leader throughout in the tightly packed field as they raced down the backstretch.

Jockey Joseph Ramos took his mount five wide as they raced around the tun to give him clear room coming into the stretch. It took Brotha Keny most of the stretch run to get to the leader, but he got the lead in the closing strides to win by a half-length.

It was the fourth win of the year for the Steve and Lance Kinross-raced Brotha Keny, who has also hit the board three other times. In all, the 3-year-old has finished in the top three in eight of 13 starts.

Bred in Kentucky by Terrazas Thoroughbreds, Brotha Keny is a half-brother to the stakes winning Concealed Carry as one of nine winners from nine to race out of Raramuri Princess. That Northern Afleet mare is a daughter of the stakes winning Format, who produced multiple stakes winner Chief Counsel among her four winners.

Mo Town has sired eight stakes winners and 14 stakes performers in 2025, led by two Gr.2 winners.
