Classic Mo Town Another Mo Town Stakes Winner
For the second time this week, Mo Town registered a stakes winner when Classic Mo Town (5g Mo Town x Porta Clasica, by Portrillion) won the Grade II Eclipse Stakes.
Racing on the synthetic Woodbine track over 1 1/16 miles, Classic Mo Town raced in midpack on the rail as Get Smokin set the lead about five lengths in front of the eventual winner. Classic Mo Town was relaxed on the inside of another runner down the backstretch before weaving his wave through traffic around the turn.
Hitting the stretch, only Get Smokin was in front of the 5-year-old. Classic Mo Town was able to wrangle that one in with about a furlong left to run and started pulling away. A late closer cut into that expanded margin late, but Classic Mo Town was still half a length in front at the finish.
It was the sixth victory for the Martin Drexler trainee, who is owned by Bruno Schickedanz. Overall, Classic Mo Town has placed in the top three in 17 of 22 starts with a Grade III placing to his name as well.
Bred in Florida by John Penn and Sue’s Farm, Classic Mo Town is out of the multiple stakes winning Potra Clasica, who was also a multiple Grade III placed mare. In addition to Classic Mo Town she has also produced the Grade III placed Town Classic and two other winners from seven to race.
Classic Mo Town’s granddam Is You Classic produced two stakes winners and a Grade I placed runner of her own as one of multiple stakes producers out of the Grade II placed Copper Canyon. Her half-sister is the dam of Grade I winner Crusader Sword with another producing Grade I winner Cherokee Colony. This is also the family of champion Speightstown and Grade I winners Capezzano and Early Voting.
Mo Town’s Mystic Lake was the first stakes winner of the week for Mo Town with a win in the Memorial Day Sprint on Monday.
