Determined Mo Town Filly Wins G2 Inside Information
Mo Town’s Grade II winner Mystic Lake (4f Mo Town x Salty Soul, by Itsmyluckyday) added a sixth stakes victory to her record on Saturday with a win in the Grade II Inside Information at Gulfstream Park.
Starting her year off in the seven-furlong dirt race, the filly was among the first out of the gate and raced head-and-head with Olivia Darling down the backstretch with American Pharoah’s Jody’s Pride pushing her from behind. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. was barely moving on his mount until they hit the stretch with Jody’s Pride confronting her after finding a hole.
It was a duel to the line with the two Coolmore-sired fillies unwilling to give in and race favorite Emery on the outside attempting to make her own move. Mystic Lake continued to show she wasn’t willing to lose, winning by a neck with Jody’s Pride just getting nabbed by Emery and having to settle for third.
It was the seventh win in 14 starts for the Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee, who races for C2 Racing Stable and Stefania Farms, pushing her winnings to $1,033,354 with 11 top three finishes in 14 starts.
A $130,000 OBS 2-year-old purchase in 2023, Mystic Lake was bred by Peggy Costanzo out of the Itsmyluckyday mare Salty Soul.
Salty Soul is one of four winners from four to race out of the stakes placed, 23-time winner Pyramyst. Four of Mystic Lake’s first five dams all produced stakes performers with that other mare a blacktype earner herself.
This is the second stakes performer of the year for Grade I winning Uncle Mo son Mo Town, who is a top 10 fourth crop sire by cumulative earnings, stakes winners, stakes performers and winners.
