
Gunite Offerings Led by $175,000 Colt at Saratoga Fall Mixed Sale
Rookie Cards was the buyer of a weanling from Gunite’s first crop at this week’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Fall Mixed Sale when going to $175,000 to acquire the colt.
Bred by consignor The New Hill Farm, the colt is a half-brother to Uncle Mo’s stakes winning daughter Monkeys Uncle and four-time winner Along The Way from three to race out of Humor Section. That mare is out of dual Grade I winner Lazy Slusan, who is the first of three generations to win Grade Is with her Grade I winning daughter Last Full Measure producing Grade I winner Valiance. Another daughter produced the stakes placed Five Stars to give Lazy Slusan three stakes producer to go along with her four winners from five to race.
Each of this colt’s first five dams produced stakes performers with three of those producing stakes winners.
Gunite also had a $160,000 weanling sold to ZQ Bloodstock from Saratoga Glen Farm.
This filly is the second foal out of Distorted Humor mare Abuela’s Humor and was co-bred by her consignor with Beals Racing Stable. Placed on the track, Abuela’s Humor is a half-sister to Practical Joke’s stakes winning Howl. Each of Abuela’s Humor’s first four dams have produced at least one stakes performer with her Grade II winning With a Wink the dam of the stakes winning trio of Jena Jena, Win With a Wink, and Up Like Thunder.
Many of her With a Wink’s daughters and granddaughters have also produced stakes performers with those named under her name including Grade II winner Anarchist, Grade III winner Cookie Dough and stakes winners Grantland, Won Happy Mama, Financial Modeling, and others.
Gunite is set for a big breeding stock sale season with the stallion having four weanling offerings at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale and 46 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
