
Gunite Offerings Well Received During First Two Keeneland Books
A mare carrying a foal by Gunite sold for $2.3 million during the first book of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale to become the fourth most expensive mare of this year’s sale and lead home excellent results for Gunite during the first two books.
Purchased by Summer Wind Equine from Denali Stud, who was selling her as part of the Woodford Thoroughbreds Dispersal, Super Simple is the dam of this year’s Gr. Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Super Corredora. That filly is the second foal out of the mare, whose first has also won multiple races from her two foals of racing age. The foal Super Simple is carrying is a three-quarter sibling to that filly.
A multiple winner herself, Super Simple is out of the stakes winning Simplify, who produced seven winners from nine to race. Her runners include multiple stakes winner Optionality, stakes winner Simple Surprise, Gr.3 placed Counterspy, and American Pharoah’s stakes placed Simply Sovereign. Simple Surprise has also been a top broodmare as the dam of Gunite himself and the Gr.3 winning Spice Runner.
Gunite’s first weanlings have also been very well received at this sale, led by a $350,000 filly.
Purchased by Long Fellow Stable from Vinery Sales, the February born filly is the second foal out of four-time winner Malibu Anthem. Hailing from the family of Canadian Horse of the Year Uncaptured, the filly’s dam is a half-sister to the Gr.1 placed Expressman and two other winners out of Spangled Banner.That mare is a half-sister to stakes winner and Gr.2 placed Lady Echo and stakes winner Soros with Gr.2 placed half-sister to the dam of three-time Gr.1 winner Curalina. Ladyecho is the granddam of recent Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship third Knockanara with a second half-sister the granddam of recent Maryland Million Distaff winner Onyx Ten.
A $340,000 weanling was the most expensive colt by Gunite when purchased by Harcourt Stud from Denali Stud.
This is the first foal out of the three-time winning Street Sense mare Todo Sola, who is a half-sister to the multiple stakes winning Sully’s Dream among the five winners out of Karate gal. This is also the family of recent Gr.3 Durham Cup winner Cool Kiss with nine stakes winners and four other stakes performers on the page.Gunite’s other weanlings sold for $335,000, $290,000, $200,000, etc.
