Gunite In Paddock

Gunite’s Momentum Carries Through Later Keeneland November Books

Buyers couldn’t wait to get their hands on Gunite’s first crop at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, paying up to $310,000 for his offerings in the final three books after spending up to $350,000 in the first two.

His later book offerings were led by a Faris Breeding-purchased $310,000 colt offered by Mulholland Springs.

The Dr. Sherry Lee Talowsky-bred colt is a half-brother to two winners from two to race out of the Stormy Atlantic mare Lucy Buckner. That mare is a full sister to Gr.1 winner Stormy Lucy and a half-sister to the dam of Gr.2 winner Big Runnuer and stakes winner and Gr.3 placed Shifty.

There are three stakes winners under the colt’s second dam with six stakes winners and three other stakes performers under his third.

Wesley Ward purchased a Gunite filly in the second book for $290,000 and was back in Book 3 for a $260,000 filly.

Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, the filly bred by Rhianon Farms is a half-sister to two winners from two to race. The Yes It’s True mare is a half-sister to Canadian champion Inglorious and to Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 placed Dixie Strike and stakes placed Sebastian’s Song. Inglorious is also the dam of Gr.2 placed Miss Canada and Dixie Strike is the dam of Gr.3 winner Forever Dixie.

Polly Bloodstock was another buying a Gunite in the later books when going to $210,000 for a Legacy Bloodstock offered colt out of Sastrugi.

Bred by Scott Pierce, this colt’s second dam is the A.P. Indy mare Indian Snow. That mare is the dam of Gr.1 winner Morning Line, stakes winner Liam’s Pride, and the stakes placed Brady Baby. Her daughters have also produced horses such as stakes winner Rightandjust and Gr.3 placed Daddy’s Kid and Gefest with two being the granddams of Gr.3 winner Order and Law and Gr.3 placed Condensation.

The colt’s third dam was also impressive as a dual Gr.1 winner on the track and the granddam of Gr.1 winner Express Train as well.

Gunite’s 29 offered sold for an average of $169,483 and median of $155,000 with his others bringing $200,000, $200,000, $200,000, $180,000, etc.
