Gunite In Paddock

Gunite Weanlings Led by $190,000 Colt at Fasig-Tipton November

Gunite’s first weanlings continued to impress at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale with his three offered averaging $140,000 with a $150,000 median on Monday.

The group was led by a $190,000 colt sold to Chestnut Valley from Scott Mallory’s consignment.

Co-bred by Mallory with Catherine Jennings, this colt is out of accomplished broodmare Miss Henny Penny. A stakes placed runner, Miss Henny Penny has produced six winners from six to race led by The Sky Is Falling and dual stakes winner Door Buster in addition to nine-time winner Ocean Lilly. The Sky Is Falling won her sixth stakes just a few weeks before the sale to take her record to 12 wins and seven other top three finishes in 30 starts for $432,080 in earnings.

Miss Henny Penny is one of two stakes performers out of her own dam with the family including stakes winner and Gr.1 placed Princess V and Gr.1 placed Roman Invasion among others.

Cherry Knoll Farm went to $150,000 to acquire a Gunite filly from Paramount Sales.

This is the first foal out of a More Than Ready half-sister to Puca, with that successful broodmare selling for $5 million later in the sale. His dam is also a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner Finnegan’s Wake to give him four Gr.1 winners under his first two dams alone.

Puca herself is the dam of dual Gr.1 winner Dornoch, Gr.1 Kentucky Derby winner Mage, and Gr.1 Pennsylvania Derby winner Baeza along with the multiple stakes placed Gunning.

Gunite’s first foals have sold for $190,000, $175,000, $160,000, etc with more to come at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
