Mae Town Wins Stakes Debut in Pea Patch

Cave Brook Farm homebred Mae Town (3f Mo Town x Latest Thinking, by Tale of the Cat) registered her third consecutive victory and first stakes in Sunday’s Pea Patch Stakes.

Making her stakes debut after registering back-to-back Churchill Downs wins, the Brian Lynch trainee was shipped to Ellis Park for the 5 ½ furlong turf sprint. As the leaders set a fast pace up front, Mae Town was happy to sit in the back of the field early. She didn’t make serious progress toward the lead until they turned into the stretch when she started flying.

Racing outside the late leader in the final sixteenth, Mae Town passed Pondering late to win by three quarters of a length.

This was her third win in five starts with the filly hitting the board in her first two starts before breaking her maiden at Churchill Downs.

The filly is a half-sister to the stakes winning Rustler and four other winners out of Tale of the Cat mare Latest Thinking. That mare is a granddaughter of Grade III winner Minidar, who also produced Grade II winner A Little Warm and the dams of Grade II winners Mini Sermon and Til Ruler.

Mae Town’s fourth dam is the three-time Grade I winner Minstrella.

It’s been a good weekend for Mo Town, who also saw 2-year-old colt Mo Dodgy impressively win a Saratoga Maiden Special Weight on Friday.
