Easy Maiden Success For Sioux Nation Filly
Alphecca (2f Sioux Nation - Nepali, by The Gurkha) got off the mark in style when striking at Killarney on Monday.
The Joe Murphy-trained filly had built on her debut with a fine third at Naas last month and she duly stepped up another level here.
Ridden by Gary Carroll, Alphecca came home by an easy five lengths with Just A City Boy, also by Sioux Nation, in third.
Carroll said: "She was coming here off the back of a good run but had missed the break when finishing third the last time at Naas. That rode like a good race and I felt I should have won as we got caught too far back.
"She jumped well today and while it was a messy race early, we went a good gallop and she quickened well. It is great to come and win her maiden."
Alphecca was bred by Gerard Kervick.
