No Nay Never Colt Produces Smart Performance At York
Egoli (2c No Nay Never – Solar Gold, by Sea The Stars) took a step forward on his second start to win Saturday’s six-furlong maiden at York.
Ralph Beckett’s charge finished fifth in a competitive maiden on debut last month, and that promising performance got a boost when the third horse, Calico Blue (Calyx), won at Chester next time out. Partnered by Silvestre de Sousa on Saturday, the Cayton Park Stud homebred raced prominently and improved to lead before the two-furlong pole. Ridden a furlong later, he kept on well to score by a length and a half, with another two and a half lengths back to the third.
De Sousa later commented: “Egoli ran a good race first time, but he was entitled to do what he did and will improve. He's a big baby but jumped out smart. I sat quiet on him but showed his natural ability when he hit the front.”
