Promising Saxon Warrior Colt Goes One Better

Try Storm Cat (2c Saxon Warrior – Second Happiness, by Storm Cat) took another step forward on his third start to justify favouritism in the six-furlong novice stakes at Pontefract.

Third on debut and narrowly denied next time out, the Charlie Johnston-trained colt made all of the running once again on Monday and was ridden when joined approaching the final furlong. The bay soon asserted and kept on to win by two and a half lengths under Rossa Ryan.

“Try Storm Cat has run well in defeat on both [previous] occasions and he deserved to get his head in front,” Johnston later told Racing TV. “We'll see what the handicapper does and what kind of mark but I think he will go another furlong and the seven-furlong nursery at Goodwood could be an option.”

The Saxon Warrior colt is owned by Jaber Abdullah and was bred by Flaxman Stables.
