Promising Saxon Warrior Filly Captures First Success
Killashee Warrior (2f Saxon Warrior - Ascended by Dark Angel) got off the mark with an assured display at Thurles on Thursday.
Trained by Eddie and Patrick Harty, the filly had finished fourth in the Listed Ingabelle Stakes at Leopardstown behind subsequent Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Diamond Necklace (by St Mark’s Basilica).
The daughter of Saxon Warrior was positioned prominently under Jamie Powell and she got to the front with a furlong to run. She duly struck by a length-and-three-quarters.
Eddie Harty said: "She had a lovely run first time out and most of her owners are in England so then we decided to run her at Leopardstown on Champions Day. We let her have a crack at the Ingabelle, where she flew, and she did what she should do today.
"The ground was too deep to risk her on at the Curragh last week and I don't think she was in love with today's track and while the ground was lovely, it can be trappy.
"We've always had an eye on a three-year-old campaign with her and she has earned her break, so we'll see what next year brings. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards and is a lovely one to have."
Killashee Warrior was bred by Michelle Morris.
