Reyenzi (Saxon Warrior) Wins At Navan

Saxon Warrior Colt Impresses On Seasonal Return

Reyenzi (3c Saxon Warrior – Reynira, by Lope De Vega) shaped like a Stakes horse in the making when drawing clear in Saturday’s ten-furlong maiden at Navan.

The Johnny Murtagh-trained colt entered notebooks after his debut over seven furlongs in September, when he was slowly away but went on to finish second, beaten three parts of a length. Partnered by Ben Coen on his seasonal return, the Aga Khan homebred raced in midfield and began to make headway with over two furlongs left to race. In front a furlong later, he went on to lead by five lengths on the line.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said: “He worked very nicely during the week, but was so green on his first run that I said to Ben to just drop him in and teach him as much as he could.

“I really liked the way, when he got the gap, he came through it well and quickened up well. It was a competitive race with a lot of fancied horses in it, Ben was very impressed.”

“I'm not sure where we go next, but we will see what is there for him: I'm hoping he can shape up into a Stakes horse.”
