Andab (Saxon Warrior) Impresses On Debut At The Curragh

Saxon Warrior Colt Looks A Class Above At The Curragh

Connections have a lot to look forward to with Andab (2c Saxon Warrior – Tickled Pink, by Invincible Spirit) after he ran out an impressive debut winner at the Curragh on Monday.

Joseph O’Brien’s newcomer faced 13 rivals in the opening six-furlong maiden and broke smartly under Dylan Browne McMonagle, before settling behind the leaders. Nudged along to lead after the two-furlong marker, he was ridden to assert soon after, going on to win by four and three quarter lengths, eased down.

“It was a smart performance,” said the winning trainer. “You’d have to be very impressed with the fashion he won and the professionalism that he showed. The obvious thing to do is to come back for the Marble Hill. The dream would be that he might be a Coventry horse.”

Andab was bred by Trevor Stewart, who retained a share in the Saxon Warrior colt after he sold to Al Shaqab Racing for 290,000gns as a yearling. He is a full-brother to Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Victoria Road (Saxon Warrior).
