Second Stakes Success For Sioux Nation’s Shagraan

Shagraan (4g Sioux Nation - Annie Fior, by Finsceal Fior) captured his second black-type contest when repelling all challengers in the Listed Rous Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

The Mick Appleby-trained gelding had landed his first Listed success in the Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes in August and produced a career-best last-time-out when just denied in the Group 3 World Trophy Stakes at Newbury.

Ridden by Kieran Shoemark, the son of Sioux Nation was positioned prominently before pressing the leaders two furlongs out. He took up the lead a furlong from home and duly won by a neck.

Appleby said: “Shagraan is improving all the time. He's still growing and filling out and I think he'll be even better next year. We'll put him away now and look to next spring. He loves his racing and hopefully next year he'll be a Group horse.

“Kieran gave him a great ride, he's not ridden many for me before but he did exactly as we told him and it was a great job.”

Shagraan was bred by Brendan and Anthony Murphy.
