Athlumney Warrior (Saxon Warrior) Wins His Maiden At Dundalk

Son Of Saxon Warrior Wins Maiden In Good Style

Athlumney Warrior (3g Saxon Warrior – Empowermentofwomen, by Manduro) built on his recent promising debut to run out a comfortable winner of Friday’s mile maiden at Dundalk.

Michael O’Callaghan’s charge finished second to what looked a smart prospect over course and distance a month prior, and was sent off favourite to go one better on his second start. Racing prominently under Colin Keane, he eased into the lead two furlongs from home and was ridden clear soon after. He kept on well to score by two and a quarter lengths, with another three and a quarter lengths back to the third horse.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said: “The family usually progress with time and up in trip, so you would imagine he would turn into a nice mile and a-quarter, even a mile and a-half horse, in time.

“He has plenty of size and scope, so hopefully he can keep going in the right direction. I think with racing and time he is just going to improve.”

Bred by Joe and Edel Banahan, the son of Saxon Warrior is owned by David L’Estranger, Athlumney Farms and Stephen Barry.
