Crystal Ocean Filly Claims First Hurdle Win

Watamu (4f Crystal Ocean - Woolstone One, by Authorized) claimed a first win over hurdles with a brave success at Huntingdon on Monday.

The Paul Jacobs homebred had run out an emphatic winner of a Stratford bumper on debut for Pat Murphy and was making it third time lucky over hurdles for Emma Lavelle.

Ridden by Harry Cobden, Watamu was held up towards the rear and made headway before two out. Disputing the lead approaching the last hurdle, the daughter of Crystal Ocean took the lead up the run-in to post a neck success. In third was Annie Hathaway (by Getaway).

Watamu's win continues the fine run of form for Crystal Ocean, whose other recent scorers include Ascot maiden hurdle victor Crystal Island and emphatic Carlisle novices' hurdle winner Cristal d'Estruval.
