Hurricane Lane’s First Foals Make an Impact at Tattersalls Ireland
Hurricane Lane’s debut crop made a notable impact at Tattersalls Ireland this week, with 21 lots sold for an average of €20,400 and a top price of €68,000.
Lot 506, a bay colt by Hurricane Lane out of the unraced Wakare (Yeats), consigned by Yellowford & Drumlin, was purchased by Kevin Ross Bloodstock on behalf of George Case for €68,000. He is a half-brother to two winners, including Asian Master (Shirocco), who finished fourth in the Gr.1 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. Wakare is also a half-sister to Gr.3 winner Cup Final (Presenting) and a daughter of the outstanding Asian Maze (Anshan), winner of four Gr.1 hurdle races.
Earlier in the week, a Clonmult Farm-consigned chestnut colt out of the French-bred Balko mare Dam Royale, bred by Pat Fennessy of Ballinaroone Stud, also attracted strong interest, selling for €42,000 to Luke Cummins’ Belleville Bloodstock. Dam Royale’s two winners include the Grade 2-placed AQPS bumper runner Hercule Point. Cummins commented: “He’s a lovely young foal and we’re delighted to get him. He has a pedigree, a nice walk and his sire was a good horse. The plan is to come back here.”
Other shrewd buyers who successfully secured Hurricane Lane’s progeny included Richard Frisby, purchasing Lot 301 (Darlana) for €47,000, and Briown who purchased lot 515 (Willow Park) for €40,000, contributing to the strong average and overall trade.
Hurricane Lane, winner of three Group 1 races including the Irish Derby, Grand Prix de Paris and St Leger, retired to Coolmore’s National Hunt division at Grange Stud in 2024, where he served a debut book of 236 mares at €6,000. His first foals have already impressed buyers with quality and athleticism.
A further 32 Hurricane Lane foals are catalogued for the upcoming Goffs November Sale, providing an exciting opportunity to acquire stock from this top-class young sire.
