Son Of Vadamos Gains Deserved First Win Over Hurdles

Champagne Kid (6g Vadamos - Treacle Noir, by Raise A Grand) landed his first win over hurdles with a gritty display at Punchestown on Sunday.

The six-year-old had captured a bumper at Listowel last year for trainer Pat Collins and had also placed several times over hurdles, including when second at Leopardstown in March.

Ridden by Eoghan Finegan, Champagne Kid was in touch with the leaders and went into third place from two flights out. The Vadamos gelding led narrowly over the last hurdle before battling to a half-length success. There was a further 11 lengths back to the third-placed runner.

Sean Collins, representing his father, said: “We fancied him to run well and he set the standard as he was rated 118. He ran well behind Koktail Divin last season and that form has worked out well since.

“He stays well and would have no bother going up in trip."

Champagne Kid was bred by Tally-Ho Stud.
