American Pharoah Colt Wins Japanese G3

American Pharoah’s Luxor Cafe (3c American Pharoah x Mary’s Follies, by More Than Ready) registered his first graded stakes win on Saturday with a victory in the Gr.3 Musashino S. at Tokyo.

Racing over a mile on the dirt, the Kentucky Derby runner was making his return to the races in this race. He broke from the outside gate and raced wide down the backstretch in fourth while keen to go farther forward despite the tight hold he was kept under. Keeping a clear path throughout the run, his jockey looked happy to let him roll without any encouragement coming into the stretch.

It took just some hand urging for Luxor Cafe to find another gear and fly away from the field to win by 3 ½ lengths.

This was the fourth win in seven starts for Luxor Cafe, who has won three of his four starts in 2025 when trained by Noriyuki Hori for Koichi Nishikawa.

Bred by the Coolmore partners and Westerberg, Luxor Cafe is one of four stakes winners out of the Gr.2 winner Mary’s Follies. That mare’s other runners include U.S. champion Regal Glory, American Pharoah’s Japanese champion and dual Gr.1 winner Cafe Pharoah, and Gr.3 winner Night Prowler.

Standing in Japan for 2026, it’s been a good month for American Pharoah, who also had a session topper during Book 2 of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
