American Pharoah Keeneland Offerings Led by $625,000 Colt

Mayberry Farm was the buyer of an American Pharoah colt for $625,000 to lead his charge during the first week of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Offered by breeder Stonehaven Steadings, the colt is a half-brother to winner Leslie’s Humor and out Distorted Humor mare La Titina. That mare’s dam has proven to be a strong mare both on the track and in the breeding shed with Ask The Moon winning two Grade Is and then producing two stakes performers.

Ask The Moon’s son Belgrano is a 10-time winner whose victories include four stakes wins and her daughter is the Grade III-placed Sundaysatthebeach. That mare has followed in her dam’s footsteps as the dam to multiple Grade III winner First World War.

Colt Pike signed the $330,000 ticket for Highlander on an American Pharoah colt out of Pampered Pretty offered by Warrendale Sales.

Bred by Rock Ridge Thoroughbreds, the colt’s granddam is the illustrious champion Dayatthespa. The mare has three winners with that group including Grade II winner Spaliday and Grade III-placed Tenbury Wells. Dayatthespa’s juvenile is an American Pharoah colt named Running On Time, who placed on debut.

Dayatthespa is out of a full sister to Grade III winner Phi Beta Doc and half-sister to stakes winner Queen Mary’s Boy and stakes placed Queen Ginni. One of her dam’s half-sisters also produced Scat Daddy’s multiple stakes winner Spanish Pipedream.

American Pharoah also saw his yearlings sell for $225,000, $220,000, etc in the first two books with a $269,167 average for six sold. The Triple Crown winner and proven sire has 20 yearlings left to sell at Keeneland September.
