American Pharoah Daughter Gets Well Deserved G2 Win
American Pharoah’s 2023 Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies runner-up Jody's Pride (4f American Pharoah x Jody’s Song, by Scat Daddy) registered her first career stakes win on Saturday with a victory in the Grade II Ruffian Stakes.
The one-mile dirt race saw her taken under a tight hold early in the race by Joel Rosario, who rated her behind the leaders. Racing in the two path down the backstretch, Rosario sent her between horses as they passed the quarter pole and she slowly closed the advantage.
One furlong later, she was making serious process and gained the advantage approaching the wire. She had a three-quarter length advantage in the end with just two horses within six lengths of her at the line.
This was the fourth win in nine starts for Jody's Pride, who also has two top three finishes for $754,250 in earnings. The filly is trained by Jorge Abreu for her breeder and co-owner Parkland Thoroughbreds and Sportsmen Stable.
Jody’s Pride is one of two winners from three runners out of two-time winner Jody’s Song. That mare is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner and Grade I-placed Make Mischief and the stakes placed Speightful Lily. Another one of her sisters is the dam of the stakes placed Surfside Moon.
Jody’s Song has a 2-year-old American Pharoah colt named Democracy Defender to come.
This is the fourth stakes winner of the year for American Pharoah, tying him with sires such as Munnings, Tapit, Curlin, and Medaglia d’Oro in the standings.
