
American Pharoah Filly Kicks Off Saratoga Meet With De La Rose Win
It was a second career stakes victory for Deep Satin (4f American Pharoah x Take The Ribbon, by Chester House) on Thursday with a De La Rose S. win at Saratoga.
The Cherie DeVaux trainee was hustled out of the gate by Jose Ortiz in the one-mile race before settling just behind the pacesetting Edict.
Comfortable while racing in third, Deep Satin wasn’t asked for anything until they hit the quarter pole. By the time they reached the stretch, she was in full stride and chasing down the leaders. Her win was well timed with Deep Satin getting up in the shadow of the wire to win by a neck.
The filly races for her breeder Eurowest Bloodstock Services and John Gunther with six top three finishes in seven starts. The filly also won the Listed Virginia Oaks last year after breaking her maiden at Saratoga.
Deep Satin is out of the Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Take The Ribbon. That mare also produced Group I placed Bookrunner and stakes placed Take These Chains while her daughter Pretty paper produced Grade III winner Love and Thunder. Take The Ribbon is a half-sister to five stakes winners with her stakes winning half-sister Glinda The Good also the dam of champion Good Magic.
In all, Deep Satin is one of 13 stakes winners and 19 stakes performers under her first two dams.
This is the fifth stakes winner and 17th stakes performer of the year for American Pharoah, tying him for ninth among all North American sires by stakes performers.
