American Pharoah Filly Wins Any Limit Stakes
It was Northern Hemisphere stakes winner number 48 for American Pharoah on Sunday when Unchained Elaine (3f American Pharoah x Razorback Lady, by Overdriven) won the Any Limit Stakes.
Stakes placed before this six-furlong dirt race, Unchained Elaine quickly settled in midpack after the break. He was happy to stay in that position until the field neared the quarter pole.
It was at that point that jockey Junior Alvarado urged her to start moving through the pack to set her up for a strong stretch run. That decision was perfectly timed with Unchained Elaine taking over the lead inside the final furlong to pull away by two lengths with the third placed runner 8 ¾ lengths behind the winner.
Unchained Elaine is trained by her breeder and co-owner Patrick Biancone, who races her with Amy Dunne.
The filly is the first runner out of the Grade II placed Razorback Lady, who is also a half-sister to the stakes placed C.D. Gold. There are stakes performers under each of Unchained Elaine’s first five dams with the filly the 22nd stakes performer under her first four dams.
Forty-eight Northern Hemisphere foaled stakes winners puts American Pharoah 17th among all active North American sires with the stallion also the sire of 90 stakes performers, led by seven Grade 1 winners.
