Corniche Yearling Set to Debut at Fasig-Tipton July
Champion 2-Year-Old Corniche’s first crop is represented by six yearlings at this year’s Fasig-Tipton July Sale after his first weanlings sold for up to $250,000.
Johnson Cross is the agent for his first offering, a colt out of Brewster Flats selling as Hip 43.
Bred by Sovereign Farm, the colt is the second foal out of his dam, whose first sold for $300,000 as a 2-year-old earlier this year. Brewster Flat’s stakes winning Mendelssohn half-sister added more blacktype to the page after the catalog was released when finishing second in the Jameela Stakes.
They are out of the winning Curlin mare Split It, whose dual stakes winning dam Yoursminesours produced Grade III winner Shared Property and stakes winner Whiskey Romeo. Three of her daughters have produced stakes performers with Split It joined by the dams of the stakes placed Fraudulent Charge and Send The Boss in that category.
Hip 44 is a half-sister to 10-time winner Sheriff’s Kid and one other winner from three to race out of the stakes winning Candida H.
Consigned by Four Star Sales, the Indiana-bred hailing from the 40 Acre Farm breeding program is a granddaughter of stakes winner Magical Broad. That mare is a daughter of the illustrious Grade III winning Illeria, who produced nine stakes performers from her 10 winners. Among that group are five of Magical Broad’s successful full siblings. They are led by Grade I winning Include, and stakes winning full siblings Magic Broad and Encaustic and the stakes placed duo of Implicit and Loaded Brush.
Illeria has been a very successful broodmare with the 17 stakes performers named on the page led by 13 stakes winners.
Hip 76 offered by Taylor Made is the second foal out of Lady of Cofachiqui and bred by Craig Singer.
Lady of Cofachiqui is a half-sister to four winners out of the stakes placed Cofachiqui, whose runners includes six-time winner Feted. Cofachiqui is a full sister to three-time stakes winner Zada Belle and half-sister to the stakes placed Lucy Valentine. Other half-sisters have also produced 10-time winner and stakes placed Indygo Bo and seven-time winner and stakes placed Vocally.
A half-sister to stakes winner Ribaltagaia is the dam of Hip 86 offered by St George Sales.
This early-February colt is the first foal out of Nyquist mare Manaoag and was bred by Wilbert Tan. Manaoag never raced but is a granddaughter of stakes winner and multiple Grade I-placed Super Espresso. That mare’s five winners include multiple stakes winner and Grade II placed Eamonn.
Super Espresso is one of two stakes winners for Amizette alongside Grade II winner King Of Rome with her half-sister Alpine Rose the granddam of Grade I winner T O Royal and multiple graded stakes winner Meisho Hario. Amizette was only continuing a family tradition by producing good stakes horses and stakes producers with names such as champions Althea, Festival Of Light, and Yamanin Paradise under her own dam.
Warrendale Sale’s Hip 168 has plenty of successful runners to back her up – including 4 stakes performing siblings.
The filly out of Agreeable Miss bred by Frank Hutchinson is a half-sister to nine winners from nine to race. That group is led by stakes winner and Grade I-placed Mark of Approval and stakes winner and Grade III placed Alkaraama. Agreeable Miss is a half-sister to the Grade III placed Sweet and Flawless and stakes placed Matikanetamakazura in addition to the dams of Grade II placed Exchange Way and stakes placed Caramel Chip.
Blacktype runs deep in this family with each of the dams on the page producing at least two stakes performers and three also earning their own blacktype.
One of the latest hips at the sale is the final Corniche offering when Hip 254 goes through the ring for C & S Thoroughbreds.
The filly is a half-sister to two winners from three to race out of the Grade III-placed Moon Rainbow, whose winners include Tiz The Law’s Joejoe Go. Moon Rainbow is one of four stakes performers out of Grade III-placed Scarlet Butterfly, whose five winners are led by stakes winner Smartyfly. Smartyfly and stakes placed Scarlet Flutter are both full sisters to Moon Rainbow with the trio having nine wins between them.
Scarlet Butterfly is one of three stakes performers out of her own stakes placed dam Hummingbird Red with the mare producing two other stakes producers as well.
Moon Rainbow returned to Practical Joke after foaling this filly and had a Practical Joke colt in 2025.
