First Japanese Winner for Tiz The Law
Tiz The Law hit another milestone on Saturday when Indigo (3c Tiz The Law x Some Kind of Blue, by Union Rags) became his first Japanese winner.
Debuting in the 1 1/8-mile dirt race at Chukyo, Indigo easily popped out of the gate and settled close to the lead with multiple horses to his outside. The colt was happy to keep his rail spot just behind the pacesetter down the backstretch without making a serious move until the field straightened out for the final run.
Indigo overtook the leaders in midstretch and easily pulled away to win by four lengths.
Trained by Kenji Nonaka for owner-breeder Kanayama Holdings, his dam Some Kind of Blue was purchased by his breeders for $290,000 carrying the colt.
That mare is a half-sister to Grade I winner Eskimo Kisses and Grade I-placed Silver Ride out of Silver Colors. A daughter of the great Grade I Kentucky Derby winner Winning Colors, Silver Colors is one of four stakes producers out of her dam.
Tiz The Law has only had two Japanese starters with his first placing third on debut two weeks ago.
