Tiz Dashing Breaks Through in G3 Hill Prince
Third in both his previous graded stakes attempts, Tiz Dashing (3c Tiz the Law x Breaking Beauty, by Into Mischief) broke through in Saturday’s Gr.3 Hill Prince S. to become the newest Tiz the Law stakes winner.
Tiz Dashing took up a stalking position early in the 1 1/8-mile turf race when racing a few paths wide under Javier Castellano. The pair let those in front of them set a reasonable pace before Castellano started asking Tiz Dashing to pick them up just outside the quarter pole.
Switched out even farther from the rail coming into the stretch, he made a big run to take control going into the final furlong. The longtime leader wasn’t willing to bow down, but either was Tiz Dashing and they fought it out to the line with the Tiz The Law 3-year-old coming out a neck in front.
Trained by Tiz The Law’s trainer Barclay Tagg for his racing owner Sackatoga Stable, the colt has now hit the top three in six of nine starts for $292,207 in earnings. His placings include thirds in both the Gr.1 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame S. and the Gr.3 Manila S. over the summer. Tiz Dashing was also second in last Fall’s Awad S. as well.
“It’s very special. This horse [Tiz Dashing] is the only time we’ve ever bought a weanling. I was with the Coolmore guys at the sale, and they told me, ‘Jack, that’s the horse you want to buy.’ They were right,” said Sackatoga Stable’s Jack Knowlton. “We’re thrilled with how Tiz the Law is doing [at stud] - we just bought a yearling at the Maryland sale in September. We’ll keep supporting our boy.”
Bred by Camas Park Stud, Tiz Dashing is one of two winners out of the winning Into Mischief mare Breaking Beauty. That mare out of Gr.2 winner and Gr.1 placed Que Belle is a half-sister to Gr.3 winners Quetsche and Osidy and to the dam of Wootton Basset’s stakes winner and Gr.3 placed Wootton’sun.
The family also includes champion Quantanamera, Gr.2 winner and Gr.1 placed Know More, and Gr.2 winner Quelle Amore.
Breaking Beauty foaled a colt by Gunite this year.
Tiz The Law is the sire of seven stakes winners in 2025, tying him with stallions such as Munnings, Street Sense, Hard Spun, and Blame.
