
Justify Daughter Leads Practical Joke’s Keeneland January Offerings
Justify’s daughter Just Soaring was the second most expensive broodmare of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale when Hunter Valley Farm went to $625,000 to take her home.
Consigned by Four Star Sales, Just Soaring sold in foal to Justify’s studmate Practical Joke on a March 4 cover.
The 5-year-old is a half-sister to the Gr.2 placed Yet and Gr.3 placed Carracci among two winners from three to race out of Galileo’s Gr.3 placed daughter Butterflies. Yet proved that Butterflies is passing down producing talent last year when the mare’s first foal Albert Einstein won the Gr.3 Marble Hill S. as a juvenile.This is an incredibly prolific family with Butterflies a daughter of the great multiple Gr.2 winner and bluehen broodmare Mariah’s Storm. That mare’s other foals include Horse of the Year and leading sire Giant’s Causeway and Gr.2 winner You’resothrilling among many others. You’resothrilling is also the dam of Gr.1 winners Gleneagles, Happily, Joan of Arc, and Marvellous.
Practical Joke also saw Pipit sell to Pursuit of Success for $585,000 carrying his foal on an April 8 cover as the third most expensive broodmare of the sale.
The stakes winning mare’s first foal is a yearling colt by Justify who brought $300,000 at the same sale. Finishing in the top three in five of eight starts, Pipit is one of two winners from two to race out of the stakes placed Browse. A daughter of Gr.2 winner Daydreaming, Browse is a half-sister to Gr.1 winner Imagining and the stakes placed Reflecting. Another of her half-sister is the granddam of Practical Joke’s Gr.1 winner Chocolate Gelato.
Practical Joke’s most expensive yearling was a $300,000 filly purchased by Cherry Knoll Farm.
Offered by Fort Christopher’s Thoroughbreds, the New York-bred filly bred by Christopher Shelli and Ashford Stud was the sixth most expensive yearling filly of the sale and fourth most expensive of the first session. She is a full sister to Practical Joke’s stakes winning Mischievous Gal, who is one of two of racing age out of Enough. That mare is a half-sister to the stakes winning Plenty of Vision and Plethora in addition to Congo.
