Lookinforbargains Newest Practical Joke Stakes Winner

It was a new stakes winner for Practical Joke this week when Lookinforbargains (5m Practical Joke x Mixed Up Kid, by Lemon Drop Kid) won the Zia Park Distaff S. in her second stakes attempt.

The Todd Fincher-trained mare had won an Allowance in preparation for this start going six furlongs on the dirt. She was happy to race in midpack just two lengths off a dueling trio for much of the race before creeping closer in the turn.

The stretch run was when Lookinforbargains decided it was her time to shine, joining in a battle for the lead. It wasn’t until the late stretch that she was able to kick clear, but she quickly pulled away from there to win by 2 ¾ lengths.

Owned by Paul Jenson, Lookinforbargains has won half of her 12 starts with three other top three finishes for $240,811 in earnings with five of those wins coming in eight starts this year.

Lookinforbargains was bred by Gregory Alan Wheeling out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Mixed Up Kid, ho has two winners from three to race. Mixed Up Kid is a half-sister to the stakes winning Doc Hay and Gr.3 placed Clearbrook. The family also includes Gr.1 winners Sky Mesa, Matareta, and Maxfield among others.

Practical Joke leads all fifth crop sires by winners with 370 with 37 stakes winners and 86 stakes performers from his first five Northern Hemisphere-foaled crops.
