Slippers Impressive on Debut for Munnings
It was an eye-catching debut for Slippers (2f Munnings x Hill d’Oro, by Medaglia d’Oro) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday when the D.J. Stable-owned juvenile won by three lengths.
Mark Casse started the filly’s career in a five furlong turf race and Slippers broke well before dropping back to take a rail spot. Once she secured that, she showed a burst of speed to close over five lengths on the leader around the turn and was just behind the leader coming into the stretch.
Slippers only felt a few taps when she slid up beside that one before shooting away to win by three lengths with the third placed runner five lengths behind Slippers at the end.
Slippers was a $225,000 Keeneland September buy by her racing owners from the Gainesway consignment.
Bred by Whisper Hill Farm, the filly is the first foal out of Hill d’Oro. That mare is a full sister to dual Grade I winner Cambier Parc and a half-sister to Canadian champion Hillaby and Grade III winners Belle Hill and Gale Force. In all, she has five stakes performers siblings out of Canadian Horse of the Year Sealy Hill.
Hill d’Oro has a Justify yearling as well.
Munnings is the sire of 15 juvenile winners in 2025, tying him with Into Mischief in that spot.
