Stakes Winning Filly Leads American Pharoah Exacta
It was an American Pharoah exacta at Keeneland on Friday when his daughter Sweet Rebecca (4f American Pharoah x Sweet N Discreet, by Discreet Cat) came out on top of a duel with Deep Satin (4f American Pharoah x Take The Ribbon, by Chester House).
A stakes winner last year, the Resolute Racing representative broke strongly in the one-mile race on yielding turf to sit just off the leader’s hip throughout the backstretch run. She crept closer going into the far turn and was at the other runner’s throat latch by the stretch run.
It didn’t look like anyone was going to go with Sweet Rebecca as she started to pull away, but once Deep Satin was given clear running room, she clicked into gear. That was the only runner with the chance to nab the Chad Brown trainee at the line, but she still had a neck to gain at the finish line.
Purchased privately by her owner last year, Sweet Rebecca won the Memories Of Silver Stakes last April and now has three wins in five starts.
She was bred by Mt. Brilliant Farm, with the farm selling her to Cobble View Stable at Keeneland September for $250,000. The filly is a full sister to Grade II winner and Grade I placed Sweet Melania as one of two stakes winners out of stakes winner Sweet N Discreet. That mare is also the granddam of Grade II-placed Noble Confessor.
This filly’s fourth dam is the great stakes placed Lassie’s Lady. That mare’s descendants include champions Duke of Marmalade and Ruler of the World among others.
Sweet N Discreet foaled a Munnings colt on February 9 of this year.
It’s set to be a big week for American Pharoah, who looks to have two runners in next Saturday’s Grade I Kentucky Derby.
