Tiz The Law Filly Proves Best in Cup and Saucer
Tiz The Law’s Dixie Law (2f Tiz The Law x Bit of Dixie, by Union Rags) put her first loss behind her on Sunday when the juvenile won the Cup and Saucer Stakes at Woodbine.
Racing on Woodbine’s inner turf course going 1 1/16 miles, Dixie Law didn’t have the best start but quickly rebounded and angled to the rail from her outside position. Racing nearly 10 lengths off the leaders in the middle stages, she inched closer as the field started their move into the far turn and Rafael Hernandez let her loose.
Moved wide for that turn run and coming into the stretch four wide, she was quickly after the leaders. They had no choice but to yield with more than a furlong left to run and Hernandez kept his mount running to the line for a 2 ¼ length victory.
Trained by Dale Desruisseaux, this is the second win in three starts for the Hillsbrook Farms runner. The filly also won her debut by 1 ½ lengths going six furlongs on the turf in July.
Bred by Garland Williamson, Dixie Law is the first stakes winner out of Bit of Dixie, who has produced four winners from four foals. Unraced herself, Bit of Dixie is a half-sister to Grade I placed Past The Point and the stakes placed duo of Cat Five and A Bit of Pressure. A Bit of Pressure also produced Grade III winner Classic Rock.
This family also includes champion Mr. Hustle and Munnings’ Grade I winner I’m a Chatterbox.
Tiz The Law’s 2-year-old crop has been on fire with 19 winners, two stakes winners, and seven stakes performers led by two Grade I placers.
