Starspangledbanner X Love Potion Filly Tattersalls Book 2

900,000gns Starspangledbanner Filly Tops Tattersalls Book 2 Session

A filly by the in-form Starspangledbanner topped the second session of Tattersalls Book 2 on Tuesday when selling to Godolphin for 900,000gns.

Consigned by Islanmore Stud, the chestnut is a full-sister to Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes winner Avicenna, unbeaten in two starts this year for Roger Varian and Godolphin. That colt had sold to Godolphin for 450,000gns at last year’s Book 2 sale.

The pair are out of the winning Galileo mare Love Potion and from a family which includes champion two-year-old Xaar and Group 1 Falmouth Stakes winner Prosperous Voyage.

Anthony Stroud said: "She’s a standout and an exceptionally good-looking filly. We bought her full-brother Avicenna here last year, and we think very highly of him. He's a good-looking horse, too, although I think she just has the edge – she has been very well-prepared by the farm."

Islanmore Stud’s manager, Nigel Anderton, added: "We’re over the moon; the hard work and dedication of the team at home, a great team and it is down to their dedication.

"This has been 20 years in the making, in 2005 we bought the granddam Potion as a yearling, and she’s bred some wonderful stock, as has her daughter Love Potion. This filly’s been minded since the day she was born and has been beautiful since then, too.”

Starspangledbanner’s fine run of form on the track and in the sales ring continues, with his Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Precise following up in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket last Friday.

His yearlings at Tattersalls Book 1 last week sold for up to 500,000gns.
