Ger Lyons described By The Lake (2f Starspangledbanner – In My Business, by Roderic O’Connor) as “a lovely filly with a good temperament” after she made a winning debut at Naas on Saturday.

Fifteen lined up for the five-furlong fillies’ maiden and split into two groups, with the Starspangledbanner filly raced in touch with the leaders on the far side. Pushed along passing the two-furlong pole, she was ridden a furlong later and quickened well to lead from 110 yards out. She kept on to deny a late challenger by a neck, with another length and a quarter back to Cactus (Wootton Bassett) in third.
