Arc The Aim For Gleneagles’ Group 2 Winner
Arrow Eagle (4c Gleneagles – Absolutly Me, by Anabaa Blue) came out on top in a thrilling finish to Sunday’s Group 2 Grand Prix de Chantilly, marking a third consecutive Stakes success for Mrs Waltraut Spanner’s homebred.
Jean-Claude Rouget’s charge made a winning return to action in January and followed up a month later with a commanding victory in a Listed race. On top in a Longchamp Group 3 last month, he was sent off favourite at Chantilly and chased the leader under Cristian Demuro. Quickening in the straight, he was asked to challenge two furlongs from home and rallied with two others to the line, digging deep to score by a short head.
“This race has been the plan since last summer,” Rouget commented. “He has a lot of heart. The Arc is the target and he might have one run before.”
