Back-To-Back Group 3 Wins For Starspangledbanner Colt
Rafale Design (3c Starspangledbanner – Fashion Design, by Montjeu) recorded his second consecutive Group 3 win on Sunday, which was well-timed, given his entry in the Goffs London Sale the following day.
Yann Barberot’s progressive charge was last seen landing the Group 3 Prix Hocquart at Longchamp and stepped up to a mile and a half in the Prix du Lys at Chantilly. Chasing the leaders under Christophe Soumillon, the Starspangledbanner colt was switched out before the two-furlong pole and ridden to lead entering the final furlong, keeping on to beat the favourite by half a length.
While Rafale Design will be offered for sale on Monday, Yann Barberot nominated the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris as his charge’s next target. Owned by a partnership, the son of Starspangledbanner was bred by Newstead Breeding out of a full-sister to Listed winner Only A Pleasure (Montjeu).
