Ridari (Churchill)

Churchill Colt Stakes Classic Claims In Group 3 Trial

Ridari (3c Churchill – Ridasiyna, by Motivator) earned his place in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains when leading home a 1-2 for Coolmore sires in Sunday’s Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleau at Longchamp.

Last seen winning a Chantilly maiden in November, having finished second on debut, the Mikel Delzangles-trained colt was ridden patiently by Mickael Barzalona. Making headway with two furlongs left to race, he was ridden approaching the final furlong and led in the shadow of the post, beating Sahlan (Wootton Bassett) by a nose. The first two home finished a length and three quarters clear of the third.

“I’m very pleased,” said the winning trainer. “He quickened nicely and it was a good prep for the big one in four weeks’ time. He’s a May foal and not even three yet, so there should be more to come.

“I think he's had a very good lesson today and proved he has the quality for the Poule [d'Essai des Poulains]. There will be more runners and it won't be easy, but he's earned the right to have a crack.”

The progressive son of Churchill is owned and bred by Aga Khan Studs.
