Exciting Churchill Colt Impresses at Nottingham

Maximum Scepticism (2c Churchill – So Devoted, by Holy Roman Emperor) delivered a striking maiden victory at Nottingham on Friday for trainer Joseph O’Brien and owners Atlantic Thoroughbreds.

Sent off a well-backed 8/15 favourite, the imposing colt travelled smoothly throughout before quickening clear under Rob Hornby to score by over three lengths. It was a performance that marked both O’Brien’s first success at the Nottingham track and Hornby’s debut ride for the trainer.

“He’s still quite raw but showed a great attitude and handled the track really well,” Hornby commented. “Joseph was confident he’d improve again from this.”

A progressive son of Churchill, the Patrick F Kelly-bred Maximum Scepticism is now firmly on an upward curve. With a maiden win now secured in fine style, connections will be eyeing higher targets in the months ahead.
