Spicy Marg Starspangledbanner Newmarket

First Stakes Victory For Talented Starspangledbanner Filly

Spicy Marg (2f Starspangledbanner - Main Desire, by High Chaparral) picked up a deserved first black-type win with victory in the Listed Bosra Sham Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.

The Michael Bell-trained juvenile was adding a third win to her CV following on from a debut score at Newmarket in May and then at Goodwood in July. She had also finished an eye-catching fourth in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes, also at Newmarket.

Ridden by Hector Crouch, Spicy Marg raced in rear early on but made smooth headway from over a furlong out. The pair took up the lead inside the final furlong to secure a two-length win.

Owner Emma Banks said: “It’s been a really special year because I’ve got her and I’ve got Princess Petrol [by St Mark’s Basilica] who has also done really well.

"This is what you do it for, I’ve got my little breeding bits and pieces and it’s really exciting and special."

The Starspangledbanner filly was bred by Branton Court Stud.
