Juvenile Gleneagles Colt Strikes At Second Attempt
Moonlight Warrior (2c Gleneagles - Merry Me, by Invincible Spirit) got off the mark at the second attempt when winning at Newcastle on Tuesday.
The Andrew Balding-trained juvenile finished a promising fourth at Newmarket last month and stepped up to record a first success.
Ridden by P J McDonald, Moonlight Warrior was in touch with the leaders and kept on inside the final furlong to score by a neck. In third was Saxophonist (by Saxon Warrior).
Gleneagles has enjoyed a fine few days as his brilliant son Calandagan captured the Group 1 Champion Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. The four-year-old was adding to his wins in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud earlier in the season.
Moonlight Warrior is a homebred for Fitri Hay.
