Juvenile Starspangledbanner Colt Makes Fine Winning Debut
Gonna Fly (2c Starspangledbanner - Il Palazzo, by Giant’s Causeway) made the perfect start to his career with a decisive win at Newbury on Friday.
The Ralph Beckett-trained son of Starspangledbanner was in touch with the leaders under Rossa Ryan and made steady headway from three furlongs out. He took up the lead a furlong from home to post a two-and-a-quarter-length score.
Previous winners of the juvenile mile novice contest include this year's Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes scorer Cicero's Gift and Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak winner Scope.
Gonna Fly continues a purple patch for his sire following on from the top-level exploits of Precise, a winner of the Fillies' Mile and Moyglare Stud Stakes.
Gonna Fly was bred by Cn Farm Ltd.
