Promising Churchill Colt Goes One Better

Noble Victory (3c Churchill – Purple Glow, by Orientate) built on a promising debut to justify favouritism in Thursday’s six-furlong maiden at Chelmsford.

The James Tate-trained colt was beaten just a neck by a more experienced rival over the minimum trip last month. Partnered by Clifford Lee on his second start, the bay raced close to the pace and was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong. He ran on well to score by a length and a half, with another two and a half lengths back to the third.

“Noble Victory did that quite nicely,” the winning rider later told Racing TV. “When I hit the front today he was still a little bit green and I had to give him a couple of reminders just to keep him awake on the job. He could possibly stay seven.”

The promising son of Churchill is owned by Saeed Manana and was bred by W Maxwell Ervine.
