Son Of Churchill Records Third Group 2 Success
The Foxes (5h Churchill – Tanaghum, by Darshaan) has a wealth of options ahead of him, including international targetsm after gaining his third Group 2 success in Friday’s Huxley Stakes at Chester.
A Listed winner in November, Andrew Balding’s charge had run with credit since, finishing fourth from a wide draw against Romantic Warrior in the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup, and taking second in the $1million H H The Amir Trophy. Partnered by Oisin Murphy once again at Chester, the King Power Racing-owned bay raced prominently and was ridden approaching the final furlong. Asserting in the final 110 yards, he went on to win by a length and three quarters, the same margin back again to the third horse.
“He was push-button and one of the easiest rides you'd have around here. It was a joy,” said the winning rider, while the owner’s representative Alastair Donald commented: “You can never be totally confident of what'll happen at Chester, but it went perfectly to plan. There will be more travelling for him in the autumn.”
The son of Churchill was bred by Barronstown Stud, who sold him as a yearling for 440,000gns.
